What is a restaurant POS?
A restaurant POS is the system that takes the order, tells the kitchen, prints a tax bill, and records payment. In India that usually means GST lines and UPI — not only a cash drawer.
How it works
- 1. Map your channels — Dine-in, takeaway, delivery, phone — list which ones you run tonight.
- 2. Require one ticket — Reject tools that force separate kitchen and till apps for the same order.
- 3. Check GST and UPI — Ask where guest UPI lands and whether tax lines match your GSTIN.
- 4. Trial a real shift — Run one lunch with myRestrox demo or Starter before you commit.
The loop that matters
Billing software that only prints a receipt at the end of the meal leaves waiters and cooks on paper or WhatsApp. A restaurant POS should keep one ticket from table (or token) through kitchen to payment.
- Order capture — table, takeaway, delivery, phone
- KOT to kitchen — not a silent notepad
- Kitchen status — cooking / ready when you use a display
- GST bill — CGST/SGST (or IGST) from your tax setup
- Payment — cash, UPI to your VPA, splits
- Table or token released when settled
POS vs traditional billing
Traditional billing prints a total and maybe tax as a lump. A restaurant POS stores line items, KOTs, voids with PIN, and tax the way your GSTIN is configured — so reports and GSTR-1 exports (on Growth) match the floor.
Buying checklist for Indian shops
- Does waiter, kitchen, and till share one ticket?
- Can guests pay UPI to your restaurant VPA — or only through a middle wallet?
- Is GST printed from setup, not guessed at the till?
- Do you need recipes and inventory now, or only the floor this week?
- Will you punch aggregator orders, or do you need accept/reject inside one login?
How myRestrox implements this
myRestrox runs the floor loop on every plan. Growth adds recipes, stock, waste, and Insights. Scale adds outlets and optional UrbanPiper. Honest limits: no in-app Swiggy accept/reject, no rider app, no card acquirer yet.
Questions
- Do I need offline POS?
- myRestrox needs a live connection for kitchen and tables. There is a print/write queue for short blips — it is not a fully offline POS. If you need days offline, ask vendors that advertise it.
